Joe Evans has been studying Multimedia for three years in Bridgend. Before that, he studied I.T,
however he discovered that he was not satisfied with the limitations of a traditional computing course.
Coming from this I.T background, he quickly learned that a start over on an entirely different course was
not necessarily an easy task, however he persevered and finally took his skills onto third year Interactive
Media at the University of Wales, Newport.
After this final year he plans to find a job in the city of Cardiff, preferably involving film and video editing.
Owain is a 22 year old product designer. He has come from an entirely sports orientated background, studying physical education at A level, acquiring qualifications in personal training and studying martial arts for 6 years. It began with a love of 3D animating, which stemmed from a desire to tell stories and convey messages. Owain has shown an interest in animation (specifically Japanese) from an early age, but has been hindered by the fact that he has no ability in drawing what so ever. This lead him to turn to narrative. His time in university helped develop his ability to design story arcs and paths within non-linear storylines. This development in design ability began to transcend narrative and later lead to the use of other industry standard software. After experimenting with these different products in his first year, Owain noticed that his attention began to refocus on physicality. This return to previously visited avenues came with a twist as he began to use his newly acquired skills to imagine and create products to aid in training. This has lead to his ambition of creating devices which monitor and improve skill based fitness which previously required video footage and a professional within the required filed to help train an individual.
I joined the 3rd year of this interactive media course after completing a 2 year HND in Interactive media through Bridgend College.
When I first started the course I had very low expectations of myself, obviously having no prior experience in this field I had a
very steep learning curve, not only in learning the software but in learning the proper design process. I ended up graduating with
a merit overall which was better than the majority of people also studying on the same course, this was a major confidence boost
for me and spurred me on to attempt the 3rd year at Newport University which would Top-up my HND to a Degree level qualification.
The piece I have chosen to create for my Final Major Project is a reproduction of a current piece of technology called the Reactable,
which is an interactive table used to create fresh and quirky sounds and music. It does this by taking certain sound waves which the
table detects by use of fiducial markers, and alters them to the user's wishes through position and rotation. This project I thought
would push me to the near limits of my programing and technical knowledge and would be a milestone in the future things i could produce.
Heavily inspired by music and film, Richards day to day life involves listening to music which gets him through almost everything.
He plays guitar and also likes to create his music, albeit on his own as it is a very personal affair.
He is self confessed geek, and proud to share this with the world. Some would say he has OCD, but ultimately, he is most likely just a nervous perfectionist.
In his spare time, he is consistently designing in Adobe Photoshop and trying to improve and refine his skills.
Richards style of work is widely influenced by popular culture. Graphic design is where his strongest talents exist, although he does have a strong love affair with Helvetica. In his day to day life, he feels unconfident, but, it is through his designs and work where he can let his confidence shine through. In recent years, he has been creating more and more work in the medium of film and have created numerous music videos. It's clear in his style of work, that music heavily influences him and he hopes to work professionally in the medium in the future.

Nick Morgan is 26 years old and has always considered himself an artist. His skills lie in graphic design and hand
drawn illustration and recently his time is spent undertaking freelance opportunities for both
local businesses and commercial ventures.
The Interactive Media course at Newport has helped him develop certain skills such as interactive
electronics and custom Adobe Flash games. He enjoys creating visually stimulating objects out of mundane everyday items.
He has gained a mass of experience with industry standard programs such as Adobe Photoshop. Illustrator, InDesign and Flash
and is also competent in using more advanced 3D programs such as Maya and Cinema 4D.
He draws most of his inspiration from everyday life, looking at things from a different aspect. He can always see certain
shapes or characters just from looking at everyday items. He is freelance designer and has his own business customising
leather and canvas shoes which can be found online at www.ushoos.com. In his spare time he also freelances in the creation
of body art and temporary tattoos on his many visits to London.
Having come from Bridgend College HND 2nd year he has found the change dramatic, yet very welcoming.
As a Welsh speaker and interested in mythology and culture in Wales, Dan felt that there is not enough being shown on
mythology in Wales. As Dan is bi-lingual he has created the animation for Welsh speakers.
Researching into old Welsh mythology and Welsh tales he has analyzed welsh mythology and also read the Mabinogion stories,
also using a comic theme for the animation to attract the younger audiences.
Daniel has created a 3D interactive animation using Adobe Flash and Cinema 4D software to approach Old Welsh Tales and myths;
He has chosen these to show these tales in a present day technology to add interest to those that may not have an aware of these tales.
Dan has enjoyed the challenge posed by this project and has dedicated his final year at university. He has found that mixing
Welsh history and myths with today's technology incredibly interesting and creative.
Jon Reid is a developer and designer rolled into one. He came from a fine arts background, dabbling in drawing and installation work.
After his arrival at the University of Wales, Newport, he quickly developed a passion for coding and he uses his artistic background
to strengthen his projects visually and his new found coding prowess to strengthen them technically.
During his time at university, he has created a range of projects including a real life secret agent film where you played the secret
agent complete with costume, iPhone applications where you must save David Bowie, interactive art installations, wearable augmented reality
artworks and mind controlled arcade games.
Jon is currently creating a mind controlled arcade game for his Final Major Project. As well as this, he also teaches Adobe Flash AS3 as
a specialist lecturer at the University and also writes online tutorials in this subject area. He is also the technical
director of Fungineers, a small company who create and develop iPhone applications, interactive artwork and Flash games. Jon is currently
on his way to a First in his degree.

Gary began this degree at 38 years old, 22 years after working through various levels of an accountancy career.
This career path included five years at the BBC in London working on Variety shows such as Top of the Pops,
Generation Game, Fast Show etc. His roles often included working for clients with preparation of accounts,
delivering one-on-one training and business consultancy work.
During this degree he has used the experience from his working life to address deadlines and prioritising work
in a manageable way. He has broadened his knowledge of software from typical office based software to more
creative software, which includes, but is not limited to: Adobe Flash, Photoshop, video editing and even programming.
Gary has augmented his knowledge of the real world of business with the opportunities and challenges that
the future can hold. In his time at the Interactive Media course at UWN he has greatly enjoyed playing
with ideas of interaction and narrative.

Luke Squibbs has spent his time at university developing skills in Adobe's creative software packages,
as well as having an understanding of simple electronics. In addition to these skills he has learnt the
importance of time management and working as part of a team.
Coming from a more design based background, Luke found the interactive world a little hard to get used to, but, during his
time at university he has produced several interactive projects such as an interactive movie, a social
network based around live music performances in the local area and a magic mirror which allowed two
users to interact with each other over a distance through a technological take on the standard mirror.
As part of the Fungineers, a company he created with fellow students, he helped create an iPhone app
centered on having to save David Bowie from evil, which is currently available via Apples app store.
Outside of university, Luke has worked with clients on projects such as CD and DVD covers, posters,
t-shirts, badges and stickers for print for several local bands. On top of this he hopes to build
his own t-shirt company under the Young Hollywood guise as this is a strong interest of his.

Hello my name is Rachel I am 22 years old and am currently studying interactive media in Newport University campus. I have been studying for a period of three years an am on my final year of education. With my project I aim to teach students with a more interesting method and let them become inspired to learn all about the body. Culture today has a big focus around using technology and my project fits into this. The problem with education in schools at present is the lack of excitement for students to want to learn and be inspired to learn new subjects. Pupils seem to only get inspired by fun and different techniques that keep them entertained. I know this from previous experience and public announcements, Internet and upon the television and across the local papers. As a result I have incorporated my passion of art and anatomy with in a interactive way to teach students all about the body, I am doing this by allowing the viewer to move the computer mouse to reveal the different layers of the face showing them what lies beneath our skin, also in the future I would like to progress on to creating a full body piece. To create the layers I have draw them up on flash to be then projected on to a polystyrene head, which will be mounted upon a table.
My name is Marc Wijers, I have been studying a B.A. in Interactive Media at the University of Wales, Newport for the
last three years. Over these three years I have learnt a set of creative software skills with a comprehensive
understanding in Adobe Flash, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator ,Maya, Dreamweaver and X-code
During my degree and art and design foundation year I became very familiar with the CS4 / 5 range of software.
During my time are university I have enhanced these creative skills in practice and developed them further.
With a strong interest in all forms of electronic music through out my entire life, I have naturally incorporated
it into my work, a good example of this interest can be seen in the graphic design work I have produced for several music promoters and dance event.
For my final major project I'm currently designing a music turntable, which is capable of playing traditional 12" vinyl records as well as digital media files with audiovisual displays. The record player itself can satisfy the needs the any dj, from a traditional vinyl one to a more contemporary digital one.

The polar bear (Ursus maritimus) is a bear native largely within the Arctic Circle encompassing the Arctic Ocean, its surrounding seas and surrounding land masses. It is the world's largest land carnivore and also the largest bear, together with the omnivorous Kodiak Bear, which is approximately the same size. An adult male weighs around 350-680 kg (770-1,500 lb), while an adult female is about half that size. Although it is closely related to the Brown Bear, it has evolved to occupy a narrow ecological niche, with many body characteristics adapted for cold temperatures, for moving across snow, ice, and open water, and for hunting the seals which make up most of its diet.
